What Are Partial Dentures?
Partial Dentures are tooth replacements with a plastic base that anchors to be attached to your gums and other teeth. These dentures are made of the same material as regular full dentures.
The teeth in the partial dentures are either made of porcelain or composite resin. The reason for using one of these two materials is because each one is extremely durable and they both provide a very similar appearance to actual teeth. The base of the denture is made from different types of material. Depending on the preference, the base is made of either acrylic resin, nylon polymer, or chrome cobalt metal.
These partial dentures, which replace sections of missing teeth, are made to be extremely durable so that they can endure the demands of daily life. These demands include chewing, biting, and talking. The purpose behind these partial dentures is to reestablish the proper functionality of the mouth.
Reasons for Receiving Partial Dentures
There are numerous reasons to receive partial dentures. At Dentaland, we have built partial dentures for practically every reason. Here are just a few common reasons why people need partial dentures:
- Injuries – Accidents happen and when they do, sometimes teeth are the victim. At our Houston dental clinic we have seen people who have experienced car accidents, or falls, or other unfortunate events that have forcibly removed their teeth. When this happens, we create a partial denture to replace those teeth.
- Tooth Decay – Sometimes patients do not take care of their teeth like they should and cavities begin to impact their dental health. When extreme tooth decay takes place, teeth begin to fall out, become infected, or become very weak and must be removed. Due to poor oral health, it is best to have those teeth replaced with dentures.
- Age – Quite often, dentures are associated with older people. As people age, so do their teeth. After many decades of continual stress on their teeth, they may become weakened to the point that they can no longer perform their purpose. Replacing weak and aged teeth with dentures can help patients experience the oral functionality of their younger days.
